Permanent Immersive Written Installation at the National Graphene Institute Manchester 2018

Solo

National Graphene Institute Manchester, created 05/06/2018 and ongoing

Springing from Daudy’s citywide commission from the City of Manchester, Art Reach and the Arts Council UK she ended up turning the National Graphene Institute in to a gesamtkunstwerk like her Marylands Road home and now several other locations that she has turned into as it were a building that can be read like a book.

The words define the activities and spirit of the building as she saw it then, at the beginning of the artist’s ongoing collaboration with Kostya Novoselov who designed the award-winning building himself working with architects Jestico and Whiles.

The world-leading facility comprises more than 7800 square metres of collaborative working space, which includes a number of bespoke research laboratories, as well as office accommodation, social and seminar space. It also boasts 1500 square metres of cleanrooms, which is the largest academic space of its kind in the world for dedicated graphene research.

The building also features a unique rooftop garden, which is home to 21 different grasses and wildflowers designed to attract urban bees and other species of pollinators.
