lllustration of Einstein's Theory of Unification: The Sheep of Señor Rafael Montes
2025
Experimental
with Kostya Novoselov, Kate Daudy and the sheep of Mr. Rafael Montes
Event for the opening of the Hay Festival (16 September 2022) at the Aqueduct of Segovia, Spain.
Part of Daudy and Novoselov’s ongoing art + science project ‘Everything is Connected’
The event has been made into a film, now in the collections of the Museum of the Moving Image in NYC
The pair inscribed a flock of 480 sheep, belonging to Castilian shepherd Don Rafael Montes, with the words YES and NO. The sheep were then walked by Daudy and Novoselov to the Plaza del Azoguejo under the historic Roman aqueduct of Segovia. The participatory performance, commissioned by the Spanish Ministry of Culture, the Hay Festival, IE University and others demonstrates the perfection of
Einstein’s Unification Theory.
The Grand Unification Theory is a model of particle physics in which, at high energies, the three standard model gauge interactions (comprising the electromagnetic, weak, and strong forces) merge into a single force.
Underlining this inherent message of harmony, the sheep formed random groups and arrangements, finally merging as one, inviting us to reflect on the possibility for individuals to live together in peace, however disparate their views.
The work was commissioned by the Spanish Ministerio de Cultura. Worldwide press attention included the scene being Picture of the Week in the UK Sunday Times, and front page of papers across Spain and South America
